At the time of the Revolutionary War, Americans had a unique understanding of the purpose of government. We knew that government power is loaned from the citizenry through a contract for the sole purpose of protecting individual rights. We knew that rights were granted to us at birth by God (or nature) and that only a Republic with a Bill of Rights can protect us from tyranny in all its forms, including tyranny of the majority. We knew our history and we read, thought, and acted. Across the 13 Colonies, we were united in a belief system which is so powerful, it enabled us to take on the greatest military power in the history of the world and win.

Today, our nation is more divided than at any other time since our Civil War. These beliefs that once united us, that enabled us to become the freest, longest-standing nation in the history of mankind, are under attack from many sides. Unlike the patriots who founded and protected our Republic from threats in the past, we have allowed our one defense to be confiscated, twisted and misinterpreted to the point where only a handful of our citizenry understands history and can see the danger we face. Unlike the many other nations who could rely on us to come to their rescue as they experimented with massive government, United States have no defender but ourselves. If we fail, we may fail for all of mankind.

One thing can save us: It is knowledge of the simple, but timeless principles that both created us and enabled us to repair our imperfections and prosper beyond all other nations for almost three centuries. And they fit on less than 20 pieces of paper.
Be a patriot. Read, think, and act!
