We Were Once Them
©2006, Matthew Fitzgibbons

If someone came out of the blue, and
offered a wish to come true, and
guarenteed keeping it'd be the one cost,

would you ask for world fame or wealth, or
infinite youth in good health, or
maybe world peace or some love that you lost?

In much of the world there are souls who
can't have such fanciful goals, they're
wishing for something resembling your rights.

And we, we were once them
and we will be again
if we don't learn
the rights of men.

Well you might say that you'd wish for a
wish to have one million more, but
isn't the earning a thing why it's great?

Isn't it freedom that brings, the
chance to earn of all these things, so
when it comes to our principles, why this debate?

And we, we were once them
and we will be again
if we don't learn
the rights of men.

They'll all fade,
lost in a fool's trade.
We were warned that they would
for some false greater good
we obeyed.

And we, we were once them
and we will be again
if we don't learn
the rights of men!
